Of the 270 healthcare facilities тАУ government and private тАФ in the Pune district that participated in the national mock drill on Covid preparedness, health authorities have reported availability of 5,125 functional oxygen-supported beds and 1,238 functional ICU beds. A total of 1,013 ventilators were found to be functional.
With the spike in Covid infections, a national mock drill was conducted across 36,592 healthcare facilities in the country on April 10 and 11 for assessing the healthcare infrastructure for Covid 19.
At the Pune circle, which includes Pune, Satara, and Solapur, health authorities were able to conduct the mock drill of 270 healthcare facilities in Pune district. Over 70 parameters were listed for the healthcare facilities to fulfill as part of the Covid preparedness and this included criteria like bed capacity, testing kits, medicines, ambulance facilities, and so on.
Dr Radhakrishna Pawar, Deputy Director, Health, Pune circle told The Indian Express that 225 private hospitals across Pune city, Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune rural areas participated in the mock drill. A total of 40 government-run hospitals participated in the exercise apart from health care facilities attached to two government hospitals and three private colleges respectively. There were 202 basic life support ambulances and 103 functional advanced life support ambulances.
Of the 5125 oxygen-supported beds, at least 4480 were from private hospitals. There were 992 functional ICU beds across private healthcare facilities as against 99 in the government sector, as per the data collated by the Pune district health department. тАЬWe have alerted both private and government health facilities to step up their level of preparedness and response to identify and care for new cases of Covid 19,тАЭ Dr Pawar said.
Meanwhile in Pune district as on April 11, there were 711 patients with Covid 19 infection in home isolation while 31 were hospitalized. One death was reported of a 61 year old woman at Jupiter hospital. With the increase in testing for covid cases there has been a rise in the number of daily cases being reported by the district administration. On April 11, a total of 112 new covid infections were reported . According to health officials,data shows that around 132 who had tested positive earlier had also recovered and were free from Covid.
