Coromandel Express: ‘Distressed’: PM Modi on Coromandel Express train accident | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed grief over Coromandel Express train accident in Odisha’s Balasore district and assured that all possible assistance is being given to those affected.
The Prime Minister said he was distressed to hear of the accident and had spoken to Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to take stock of the situation.

“Distressed by the train accident in Odisha. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and took stock of the situation. Rescue operations are under way at the site of the mishap and all possible assistance is being given to those affected,” PM Modi said on Twitter.
Hundreds were injured after eight bogies of the Howrah-Chennai Coromandel Express derailed near Bahanaga station in Balasore.

Odisha chief secretary Pradeep Jena said the number of injured is very high and that buses are now being used to transport the injured to nearby hospitals. He further said another passenger train was also involved in the accident.
