“Another reason cited by those not taking parole was that their sentence was about to end. They say that if they take parole now, it would be counted as a break in their jail term, which they will have to complete when they return,” DG (prisons) Anand Kumar said.
“Prisoners say that they have access to better healthcare facilities, food and medicine inside the prisons. Many of them feel that they will not get proper care and facilities in their villages,” a senior jail official said.
