NEW DELHI: The Rajasthan College Education Commissionerate has directed 20 government colleges to have the front facades and entry halls of their buildings painted orange as part of the Kayakalp scheme, sparking objections from the Congress party.
This initiative, according to the Commissionerate, aims to foster a positive environment within educational institutions.
The Kayakalp scheme, originally launched by the ministry of health and family welfare, promotes cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control, particularly in public healthcare facilities. The scheme’s adaptation in Rajasthan colleges is intended to enhance the educational atmosphere and instill a sense of optimism among students.
The directive was issued by Joint Director (Planning), College Education, Vijendra Kumar Sharma, last month. In the first phase, 20 colleges, with two colleges from each division, have been selected for the project. The order specifies that the buildings are to be painted with “Asian Paints White Gold 8292 and Asian Paints Orange Crown 7974” shades.
“The colleges are central to higher education. The environment should be inviting and uplifting, so students feel positive as soon as they enter,” the directive states, adding that this initiative is intended to send a message of rejuvenation, cleanliness, and a supportive educational atmosphere.
The move has drawn criticism from the opposition Congress, with PCC general secretary Swarnim Chaturvedi accusing the BJP-led government of attempting to politicise educational institutions.
Chaturvedi said, “The BJP government has failed to deliver on its promises to the people. With little to showcase in terms of achievements, they are resorting to such moves to divert attention.”
