Coimbatore and Mangaluru blasts: NIA conducts searches in 40 places, seizes cash and digital devices | India News
CHENNAI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday seized a large number of digital devices and Rs 4 lakh in cash in searches conducted on 40 premises in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka in connection with two bomb blast incidents reported in a gap of a few days in Coimbatore and Mangaluru.
The searches began simultaneously in 32 places in Tamil Nadu and eight locations in Kerala and Karnataka, mostly the houses of suspects. The searches continued in some places till late afternoon.
In Tamil Nadu, 14 places in Coimbatore, three places each in Chennai and Tirunelveli, two each in the Nilgiris, Tirupur and Tiruvannamalai and one place each in Trichy, Tuticorin, Dindigul, Mayiladuthurai, Krishnagiri, Kanyakumari, and Tenkasi were searched by NIA sleuths. Four places each in Ernakulam in Kerala and Mangaluru in Karnataka were also searched.
On October 23 last year, a car laden with explosives exploded in front of Kottai Eswaran Temple in Coimbatore. The suicide bomber was identified as Jamesha Mubeen. Investigations revealed that Mubeen owed allegiance to ISIS. The case was initially investigated by the Tamil Nadu police before it was handed over to the NIA. On November 19, a pressure cooker bomb or an improvised explosive device exploded in a moving autorickshaw in Mangaluru.
Eleven people have been arrested in connection with the Coimbatore blast. NIA sleuths have been interrogating the accused after taking them in their custody.
