City records 3 Covid deaths in one month

Ever since Pune reported a rise in the number of Covid cases this March, authorities have registered three deaths due to the infection.

тАЬAll three who succumbed to the infection were above 65 and had co-morbid conditions,тАЭ said Dr Suryakant Deokar, Assistant Medical Officer, Pune Municipal Corporation. Civic health authorities said the last Covid death in the city was in November last year.

The three succumbed to Covid on March 11, March 31 and April 2 at Rao Nursing Home, Sahyadri Hospital and Sassoon Hospital respectively. Since the pandemic, Pune city has reported a total of 9,413 deaths due to Covid-19 and more than 6.9 lakh persons have tested positive for the disease.

Civic health authorities said the deaths registered were of a 65-year-old man and two women in their 70s who had multiple co-morbid conditions including diabetes and hypertension. In one case, the person had undergone a coronary bypass, Dr Deokar said.

Presently, there are 344 active cases in the city and Dr Deokar has appealed to citizens especially in the 60+ age group to ensure their vaccination was completed. тАЬWe have urged people who are at high risk to wear masks and not delay treatment if they have mild respiratory symptoms,тАЭ Dr Deokar said.

Dr Manish Kolge, internal medicine specialist at Rao Nursing Home said the patient who succumbed to Covid had multiple ailments He was shifted to Rao Nursing Home due to worsening respiratory condition, he added.
Dr Deokar said that 12 centres have been activated in the PMC area which can test the throat and nasal swab of a person suspected with Covid. тАЬ123 private hospitals have made arrangements in case of rise in hospitalisations. But the number of new admissions is low.тАЭ
