China the ‘only winner’ if Australia commits to a net zero target

China will be the “only winner” if Australia commits to a net zero emission by 2050 target, according to Nationals Senator Matt Canavan.

Last night Prime Minister Scott Morrison delivered a presentation at the Business Council of Australia where he mapped out a path to meet the ambitious net zero emissions goal.

Mr Canavan told Sky News China will never “sacrifice their own growth, their own development and their own industry” to meet climate targets.

“China will keep on emitting as we’ve seen last year despite their lip service to net zero emissions and we’ll be left behind”.

“The reality is we’re seeing increasing aggression from China in our region and our priority right now should not be putting more hand breaks on our own industrial development.”
