Celebrations in Gaza as Ceasefire Ends 11 Days of Violence

A ceasefire came into force between Israel and Gaza militants in the early hours of Friday, May 21, ending 11 days of conflict. In a statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his security cabinet had accepted the Egyptian initiative for a “mutual ceasefire without pre-conditions.” At least 232 people were killed in Gaza as a result of Israeli airstrikes, while 12 people were killed in Israel in rocket barrages from Gaza.
