California’s Sierra Nevada Accumulates Twice Its Average December Snow Total

The UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab in Soda Springs, California, reported 8 additional inches of snow in the last 24 hours on December 29, contributing to already record-breaking accumulation. The weather lab said the facility in the Sierra Nevada mountains had received 258 percent of its average amount of snow to that date, and 70 percent of the average snowfall for the entire season. A winter weather advisory was issued for Lake Tahoe, California, and surrounding regions on December 29 as ongoing heavy snowfall continued to impact travel.
