Unidentified assailants shot to death Kishor Aware, a businessman and founder-president of the Janseva Vikas Samiti, at Talegaon Dabhade in Maharashtra’s Pimpri Chinchwad city around 1.45 pm on Friday.
Primary investigations revealed that five to six people opened fire at Aware and attacked him with sharp weapons as he came out of the Talegaon Dabhade Municipal Council after meeting an official, police said.
Aware, who lay in a pool of blood, was taken to a hospital at Somatne Phata but was pronounced dead. Several supporters of Aware gathered at the hospital.
Police were deployed in the Talegaon Dabhade area after the murder.
Aware was active in local politics and social activities. An investigation was launched to find out the motive behind the murder and arrest the killers, said deputy commissioner of police Kakasaheb Dole.
Police said the process of lodging a first information report was underway at the Talegaon Dabhade station.
