Brit fighting for life after plunging from 3rd floor of Costa del Sol apartment – World News

A British man is fighting for his life after plunging from the third floor of a holiday apartment on the Costa del Sol, reports say.

Local media suggests that the man, 31, had tried to jump in the swimming pool below during a party with friends.

Malaga-based newspaper Sur said he missed the water and instead hit a sunshade next to the pool before crashing to the ground.

The unnamed man is said to have been rushed to hospital with a severe head injury, organ damage and multiple fractures.

The incident happened around 7pm on Monday at an apartment complex in San Pedro de Alcantara, near Marbella.

Emergency responders spent nearly 40 minutes stabilising the injured man at the scene before he was taken by ambulance.

The man was then rushed to the Costa del Sol Hospital, a 20-minute drive away.

He was subsequently transferred to another hospital in Malaga and admitted to intensive care.

His condition has been described as “very serious”.

Police could not be reached early on Wednesday for comment.

Jumping from a balcony into a pool below is known as balconing.

Both the British and Spanish governments have worked to stop the practice, which is punishable with a fine.

Last month a Norwegian tourist died after losing her balance and plunging from a ninth-floor balcony as she took a selfie.

The woman, 24, was also staying in Marbella.

She is said to have gone out on the balcony to smoke and take some holiday snaps and videos while a couple she had met during her sunshine break were trying to get their baby child to sleep.
