Boeing 737 passenger plane rolls off runway and blocks landing strip at airport – World News

A Boeing 737 has rolled off a runway and blocked a landing strip at an airport in Crimea, reports say.

It is not thought at this stage that anyone has been hurt, according to the TASS news agency.

Flights have been temporarily suspended out of the airport, which is located in the city of Simferopol.

It has been reported that the flight was arriving from Moscow and veered off to the right upon landing.

The runway is understood to have been wet from rainfall.

The airport said in a statement: “Boeing, after landing at Simferopol airport, in the process of taxiing, partially rolled out of the runway onto the planned part of the airfield.

“The lane is currently blocked.”

Up to 10 planes are said to be stuck in a holding pattern above the airport as the situation is cleared.

Crimea was annexed by Russia in 2014, although its status is disputed.

The airport, built in 1936, has one international and one domestic terminal.

More than 5million passengers pass through its doors annually.
