BMW faces $5 million dollar lawsuit alleging cupholder cover-up

A class-action lawsuit accuses BMW of a cupholder cover-up.

The $5 million suit says liquid can leak through the bottom of the cupholders and damage electronics located underneath them, according to CarComplaints.com. It also argues that BMW tried to hide the defect by having dealerships refuse to document service visits by customers who complain about the cupholders.

The plaintiff is a California resident who paid more than $113,000 for a 2020 BMW X7 M501 two years ago. The crossover experienced a number of problems that a dealership was unable to fix during several service visits this year, the suit says. It wants BMW to tell customers that the cupholders are defective and shouldn’t be used to hold cups with liquid in them.
