Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was left bloodied after a horrific tackle during their Ligue 1 match against Monaco on Wednesday. The incident happened in the 17th minute, when Wilfried Singo’s cleat studs struck Donnarumma’s face after his shot was blocked.

As Singo attempted to jump over the Italian keeper, he accidentally made contact with his face. The impact caused a cut below his right eye. After receiving brief treatment on the pitch, Donnarumma was substituted for Matvey Safonov. Surprisingly, despite being on a yellow card, Singo was not given a second yellow for the dangerous tackle.

PSG issues statement on Gianluigi Donnarumma’s injury

The former AC Milan keeper was fitted with staples after suffering several nasty cuts and will be sporting a black eye for some time. PSG issued a statement on their italin goalkeeper which said, “Victim of facial trauma with multiple wounds, Gianluigi Donnarumma will return to Paris with the team. He will undergo medical examinations and will have to remain inactive for several days.”

Will Gianluigi Donnarumma play next match?

Folowing the latest Donnarumma is unlikely to feature in the next match. PSG will be in French Cup action against Lens on Sunday. A winter break will then be taken in before facing Monaco again on January 5, 2025 in the Trophee des Champions final.

PSG beats Monaco

PSG registered 4-2 win over Monaco, with Ousmane Dembele scoring twice, while Gonçalo Ramos and Desire Doue also found the back of the next. The win saw PSG extending their 10-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table.

The match was rescheduled due to a conflict with the Trophée des Champions, which will take place between the two teams in Doha on January 5, coinciding with the weekend when the French league resumes.
