The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai Branch Office-II, successfully conducted a Walkathon on Thursday, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote consumer rights, product quality, and awareness about standardization. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 350 members of various Standards Clubs, representing leading educational institutions.

The Walkathon, organized in line with the World Consumer Rights Day celebrations (March 15), aimed to instill a deeper understanding of BIS standards, certification processes, and consumer protection measures among young minds. Carrying banners and placards advocating for ISI-marked products, Hallmarked jewelry, and the BIS Care app, students engaged with the public, promoting informed consumer choices and the importance of adopting quality-certified products.

The event was flagged off by Prem Sajani Patnala, Scientist-E & Head, BIS Mumbai Branch Office-II, and Dr Vijaykumar N Pawar, Principal, AC Patil College of Engineering, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. Both emphasized the pivotal role of quality standards in ensuring product safety, reliability, and consumer trust. The interactive event provided an opportunity for participants to understand how BIS-certified products contribute to consumer safety, environmental sustainability, and industrial excellence.
