Biker Dies After His Throat Slit by Banned Nylon Manja During Makar Sankranti Celebrations in Bhiwandi, Case Registered

Mumbai, January 17: In an unfortunate incident that took place in Mumbai, a motorcyclist died after a nylon manja allegedly slit his throat in Bhiwandi. The shocking incident took place on Sunday during Makar Sankranti festival celebrations. The incident come after Thane police commissionerate had banned nylon manja from January 12 to February 10 in the city.

According to a report in the Times of India, the 46-year-old motorcyclist died after a nylon manja slit his throat in Bhiwandi. The deceased has been identified as Sanjay Hajare. Police officials said that the incident took place when Hajare was riding home to Ulhasnagar from Vada. A police officer said that the accident took place on Balasaheb Thackeray flyover after a nylon string slit Hajare’s throat following which he lost balance and hit the retention wall of the flyover. He was the only earning member of the family. He is survived by his wife, two children and parents.

After being alerted about the incident, the police rushed to the spot and took Hajare to Indira Gandhi Memorial hospital where doctors declared him dead citing blood loss from his throat besides other injuries as the cause of death. The police have registered a case against unknown persons. Speaking about the incident, Navnath Dhavale, DCP (Zone 2) said, “We suspect four to five children were flying kites in the area and the manja that made Hajare fall from his bike could belong to any one of them.” Earlier in the day, a motorcycle rider identified as Rishi Kesharwani escaped with minor scratches after a manja nearly slit his throat.
