The accused Tunna Paswan was arrested after escaping arrest for over eight years, said police, adding they also recovered firearms, including three rifles, one DBBL gun, a country-made pistol and live cartridges from the house he was hiding in.

Police said they also arrested a woman identified as Mala Devi, who is accused of hiding Paswan and helping him in his criminal activities.

Kaimur superintendent of police (SP), Lalit Mohan Sharma, on Wednesday, said that notorious criminal Paswan, a resident of Bhutti village, was on the district’s top 10 list of wanted criminals.

Acting on a tip-off about his exact location, Patna STF and Kaimur district police led by Mohania station house officer Lalan Kumar raided a house at Barhuli village and arrested him after a mild chase, said the SP.

The SP said that he was wanted in over eight cases of dacoity, loot and extortion in Kaimur, adding that he also had several cases registered in Rohtas and adjacent Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh.

Paswan is also an accused in the attack and fire on a police team led by a probationer deputy superintendent of police during a raid in 2020.

Police said that Paswan was living in Devi’s house and extorting money by providing armed help to the land grabbers in forceful possession of lands with her help. A bike and two mobile phones were also recovered from them, they said.
