A loaded service pistol belonging to a senior Bihar Police officer has gone missing and son of a Home Guard working at his residence at police colony in Patna has been detained for questioning, police said on Friday.

The 2003-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Vikas Vaibhav, is currently posted as Inspector General of Police (IG).

According to police, on November 24, Vaibhav realised that the Glock pistol, with 25 bullets, was missing from the room he had kept it. The officer asked his family members, but no one had a clue. “Soon, they realised that Suraj Kumar, son of Home Guard Virendra Kumar deployed at their residence, was one of the outsiders who had come for some cleaning work,” police said.

After being informed later, a police team came and took Suraj into custody for questioning.

“Suraj initially gave evasive answers. Later, he told us he had stolen the pistol and sold it to his friend Sumit. Efforts are being made to nab Sumit and recover the missing pistol. An FIR has been lodged with Gardanibagh police station,” said Arvind Kumar Rajak, station house officer (SHO) of Gardanibagh police station.
