The Bihar Police on Sunday removed Constable Deepak Kumar from his duty as the bodyguard of RJD MLA Tej Pratap Yadav after a video of him dancing in public on the MLA’s instruction went viral.

In a press release on Sunday, the Office of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Patna, stated, “On social media, a video went viral showing Tej Pratap Yadav, MLA of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, instructing bodyguard (constable) Deepak Kumar to dance. Upon learning that Deepak Kumar danced in uniform at a public place, orders were issued to transfer Constable Deepak Kumar to the police center and assign another constable as a bodyguard.”

The action follows a clip of Tej Pratap Yadav allegedly threatening a police officer to dance during Holi celebrations at his Patna residence. In the clip, Tej Pratap can be heard saying, “I will play a song and you will have to dance. If you don’t, you will be suspended.” Yadav then sings, and the constable is seen dancing. Yadav also says, “Bura mat mano, Holi hai” (Don’t feel bad, it’s Holi).

The video drew criticism from the ruling parties. JDU spokesperson Arvind Nishad criticised the RJD leader, saying, “The order given by MLA Tej Pratap Yadav to the police personnel assigned to his security to dance while on duty is a reminder of the Lalu-Rabri regime.”

“His threats and actions are inappropriate. The way Holi was celebrated during their rule and how he recreated that chaos truly brings back memories of those days. In today’s governance, it is unimaginable how someone can behave in such a manner,” he added.
