Bihar: 4 cops injured in alleged attack by people involved in liquor trade

At least four police personnel, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), were injured while a vehicle was damaged in an alleged attack by persons involved in illegal sale of liquor in Bihar’s west Champaran district on Tuesday morning.

Excise department’s sub inspector Mamta Kumari, said the incident occurred at Dhangartoli area in Ramnagar when a joint team of police and excise department raided a place after being tipped off about sale of liquor in the area around 6am on Tuesday.

“As we caught the hold of three women with liquor, a large number of locals, many of them women, suddenly attacked the team, throwing stones and bricks on us,” said Kumari, who was the part of the raiding team.

When contacted, Bagaha’s superintendent of police (SP), Kiran Kumar Gorakh Jhadav said four persons including three women have been arrested.

“The identification of other accused in the attack is under way after which a case will be lodged,” said SP Jhadav.
