Bengaluru: Class X student mowed down by state bus | Bengaluru

A tenth standard student in Bengaluru was mowed down by a BMTC bus, while her mother and younger brother received minor injuries. The incident occurred on KR Puram’s Bhattarahalli road when Priyadarshini, the mother of deceased Layashri, was dropping her children to school, Today News 24 reported.

A BMTC bus swerved to the right and knocked down their scooter, following which Priyadarshini and her son, 11-year-old Yashwin, fell to the side. Tragically, the 16-year-old Layashri was run over as she came under the front wheel of the bus.

On lookers rushed the three to a nearby private hospital wherein Layashri was declared dead by doctors. She had suffered grave injuries to her head, as she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The driver of the BMTC bus abandoned the vehicle and fled. However, traffic police from the K R Puram station have traced and arrested him. Traffic cops told the publication that rash driving by the bus driver named Mahendra D N, was the cause of the unfortunate accident.

The driver also underwent a medical examination to ascertain whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol, which turned out to be negative. It is not clear if a case has been filed against the driver. However, the BMTC bus has been seized for further investigation.
