In a video that has gone viral on social media platforms, a man was seen being thrashed repeatedly by a bus driver in Bengaluru’s Yelahanka New Town area. The incident reportedly happened on Tuesday afternoon when the victim, who was on a motorbike, came in the way of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus which was trying to overtake another bus. The two buses were reportedly racing with each other.
According to a Deccan Herald report, the biker тАУ identified as 44-year-old Sandeep Boniface тАУ had allegedly shown a hand gesture to the bus driver. Enraged, the driver went to the motorist and hit him to cause bleeding on the man’s ears. He also snatched away the bike keys and phone. When the man followed the driver to the bus to take the keys and phone back, he was roughed up, the report said.
A video of the incident тАУ that Hindustan Times could not independently verify тАУ was shared by Twitter user Rakesh Prakash. Shot on a mobile phone, the video showed the driver repeatedly hitting and kicking him. A woman can be heard screaming in the background while other passengers on the bus can be seen trying to stop the driver.
Both sides had filed a complaint with the police, reports said. The man reportedly suffered injuries on his ribs, leg, and face. Meanwhile, the driver in his complaint alleged that the finger gesture had triggered the argument between the two.
The BMTC subsequently suspended the driver for assaulting the biker.
