KOLKATA: Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose relieved principal secretary Nandini Chakraborty from Raj Bhavan Sunday and met his predecessor, vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar, for over 50 minutes at his Delhi residence Monday. The state government, however, did not respond to the governor’s decision to release the 1994-batch IAS officer.
Dhankhar’s tenure was marked by open hostility with the state government, with TMC calling him “the Centre’s agent in Bengal”.
Seniors in the state government refused comments, except issuing a one-line confirmation: “Yes, we have received a single-sentence release letter from Raj Bhavan.” Neither CM Mamata Banerjee nor governor Bose spoke on the issue Monday.
Bose’s one-on-one with Dhankhar was preceded by a Saturday meeting with state BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar. Raj Bhavan issued a press release that focused on issues like amendments to Lokayukta Act, panchayat polls and continuation of the governor as the chancellor of state-run universities.
