The TMC has won the bypoll in Cooch Behar district’s Dinhata and is leading with massive margins in the remaining three Assembly constituencies in West Bengal where the bye-elections were held on October 30.
Former TMC MLA Udayan Guha has won the Dinhata seat by a margin of 1,63,005 votes. The BJP candidate Ashok Mondal is a distant second. The TMC got roughly 84 per cent votes in the constituency, while the BJP got around 11 per cent and the Left got around 2 per cent votes.
In all four seats combined, the TMC has received at least 77 per cent of the votes so far, while the BJP has got 15 per cent. The Left secured 5 per cent of the votes and Congress received 0.28 per cent.
In Gosaba constituency in South 24 Parganas district, TMC candidate Subrata Mondal is leading with a huge margin of 1,33,318 votes after the fifteenth round of counting. Here TMC got 87 per cent votes, while the BJP got only 9 per cent.
At Khardaha seat in North 24 Parganas district, state minister and TMC candidate Sovandeb Chattopadhyay is leading by a margin of 46,928 votes after the ninth round of counting. The TMC got 67 per cent votes, the CPM 15.62 per cent and the BJP secured 14.88 per cent votes.
At Santipur constituency in Nadia district, TMC candidate Brajakishore Goswami is leading by a margin of 28,606 votes after the ninth round of counting.
Bypolls to Dinhata and Santipur seats were held as sitting MPs Nisith Pramanik and Jaganath Sarkar did not take oath as MLAs from the respective constituencies after winning in the Assembly polls earlier this year. Bypolls to Khardaha and Gosaba were held following the death of TMC’s winning candidates.
