In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Pooja Nagdev, Aromatherapist, Cosmetologist and Founder of Inatur, shared, “Some kitchen ingredients such as coffee, turmeric and Oatmeal are easily available at home. These remedies are effective to remove dirt from the skin. Coffee is a rich source of antioxidants and also has exfoliating properties. Precisely you know that coffee helps to exfoliate but is not too harsh, so it leaves moist and soft. We can use coffee depending on your skin type. We can take coffee and add some Multani Mitti which is another wonderful kitchen ingredient or Amla powder which is a good source of Vitamin C. We can add Tea tree oil, rose oil or Jasmine oil and even cinnamon oil works well but has to be added in very less quantity. One drop can also be a lot it is enough so we can use very less coffee along with cinnamon and one can add for oily skin, one can use Tea Tree oil with the Amla powder and coffee to make a paste and then apply for exfoliation.”
For dry skin, she suggested, “Olive oil can be also added to the pack. Olive oil gives the moisturising effect and hydration. Basically for scrubbing just take coffee and add some olive oil and if you have essential oil add some drop of it and then exfoliate. The next ingredient is oat meal. Oat meal is especially very good for sensitive skin and has amazing exfoliating properties but it’s not harsh in comparison to an exfoliator like coffee. It helps to remove oil, dirt, inflammation, redness from the skin and giving a clearer complexion. Oat meal can be use daily you can keep it in a glass jar with a small spoon in your washroom only along with the bowl and spatula. All you have to do is take out a spoon of that add some honey to it and a little water and just scrub your face and just wash it. It is very easy to do at home and it works wonder.”
She added, “Lentils are another easily available ingredient you can use to exfoliate. You can specifically choose gram flour lentil and you can powder it a little bit and then keep that powder with you. Also you can add some multani mitti to it and you can add some to the lentil base, add some to it, if you have oily skin then add some orange peel powder to it. Orange peel powder can be placed with you every time you scoop it out then mix some water to it and apply it on your face and you are all set. If your skin is extremely dry then you can make a scrub in an oil and cream, you can also take some of your cream and you can just add lentil powder to your cream or butter, you can exfoliate your face body and cover it you feel great invigorated, try these at home to quickly unclog your pores and leave your skin feeling perfectly smooth and exfoliated. Another ingredient is sandalwood powder which is easily available. If not you can order from amazon pure sandalwood powder. You can scrub your face with sandalwood and water or milk and just wash it. It will give very nice and smooth feel and the fragrance is very calming and elevating. Try these ingredients at home for smooth and dirt free skin.”
Bringing her expertise to the same, Arthi Raguram, Founder of Deyga Organics, recommended the following homemade recipes to pull out dirt and pollutants from your skin:
1. Coffee And Yoghurt
The secret to clear skin and unclogged pores is exfoliation. Coffee is a fantastic ingredient that deeply cleanses the pores, removes dirt and impurities, restoring the skin’s natural radiance. Lactic acid, abundant in yoghurt, breaks down dead skin cells. Additionally, yoghurt ensures that your skin doesn’t lose moisture while exfoliating.
Recipe:
Blend the I/4 cup of yoghurt and 2 tablespoons of coffee thoroughly. Apply to the face and massage for two to three minutes with your hands. Leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse your face with normal water, and pat dry with a towel.
2. Lemon And Honey
For their inherent healing properties, lemon and honey have long been revered. Honey helps to make your skin glow, and lemon juice contains nutrients and anabolic agents that protect your skin.
Recipe:
Add one egg white, one teaspoon of lemon juice and half a tablespoon of raw honey to a bowl and stir to blend. On your clean face, apply a thick mixture. Let the mask dry and wash your face with warm water, then pat your skin dry. Lastly, apply moisturiser. This mask does wonders for oily skin by absorbing the excess oil.
3. Orange Peel
Orange peel, high in vitamin C, is regarded as one of the most effective skin-lightening agents. The antimicrobial and antibacterial qualities in the orange peel can aid in treating acne and skin irritation. It is also a great cleaner that thoroughly cleans our skin.
Recipe:
Take a bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of orange peel powder and 1 tablespoon of sandalwood powder. Add 1/3 cup of lemon juice and thoroughly combine the ingredients. Apply a layer of this pack to your face and rinse it off after 30 minutes with normal water. For desired results, repeat this once per week.
