Neeraj Pandey’s new romantic drama, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, has tanked badly at the box office. The film starred Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Jimmy Shergill, Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar. Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha gave its lead male star his lowest box office opening in 14 years, and things didn’t improve thereon. To understand how big of a financial setback this is, we also have to look at the budget of the movie. As per reports, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is reportedly made on a budget of INR 100 crore. If true, this is quite shocking a number since the film doesn’t exactly reflect the need for such a huge budget. What’s more, while Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha is still in theatres, the film shows no signs of improving its trajectory, and looks to wrap its domestic collections under INR 10 crore. Globally, the film earned INR 9.39 crore gross.
Even if we consider INR 15 crore as the limit here (and that’s us being hopeful), that’s an 85% loss for the film, in terms of its theatrical revenue.

There are quite a few factors that led to the film’s dismal failure. The trailers and songs didn’t manage to create a good hype for the movie before release. After the film came out, it was met with poor reviews and the audience response was also cold. Ajay Devgn has had quite a mixed bag of a year in 2024. He delivered a major hit with the supernatural thriller, Shaitaan, that went on to earn INR 149.9 crore in India. His second release of 2024, Maidaan, underperformed at the box office, though it still earned a respectable INR 82.05 crore, which now feels like a mountain when compared to Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha‘s collections.
AD fans need not worry, though; the actor has a potential blockbuster in hand with Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, releasing in Diwali 2024. He is now focussing more on sequels with 2025 seeing the releases of Raid 2, De De Pyaar De 2 and Son of Sardaar 2.
