At a time when the BJP has been deputing many of its senior leaders, including Union ministers, to Baramati as part of its special focus on the constituency for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule has invited Union Tourism and Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy to her home turf so that the area’s tourism potential can be tapped.
“I am writing to bring to your attention the tourism potential of the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency. The constituency has Sinhagad, Rajgad, Torna, Rohida, Raireshwar and Purandar forts. They are all important landmarks with a rich history of Maratha King Chhatrapati Shivaji, attracting lakhs of visitors annually,” she said in a letter submitted to Reddy on Monday.
The Baramati constituency is the home turf of the Pawar family and has been represented by NCP chief Sharad Pawar, his nephew Ajit Pawar and daughter Supriya Sule in the Lok Sabha. The BJP has been trying to end the supremacy of the Pawar family and has put the constituency on its priority list for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A few months ago, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had taken a three-day tour of the constituency to build confidence among the local BJP cadre.
In her letter, Sule said that the forts and the surrounding areas are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it an attractive destination for nature lovers as well. “The development of tourism in this area has great potential to drive economic growth and development. Bhigwan in Indapur tehsil has flamingo birds visiting every year,” the NCP MP said.
“I would like to invite you to visit these forts and Bhigwan lake and witness their tourism potential first-hand. I believe that by working together, the Union government, local administration and I as the Member of Parliament, we can together explore and harness the tourism opportunities in the region. I look forward to your support in promoting tourism in the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency,” she said.
Incidentally, the BJP leaders are going all out to criticise the NCP and the Pawar family in the Baramati constituency while Sule has been publicly making statements, welcoming people to experience the development work in the constituency.
