Artificial Intelligence A Boon For Medical Field, Say Experts, Health News, ET HealthWorld

: The three-day workshop on ‘Artificial intelligence for healthcare technology and management’, organised by IIT-Patna under its continuing education programme concluded here on Sunday with a call to serve humanity with the application of advanced technology in the healthcare system.

Highlighting the ever-increasing importance of artificial intelligence in day-to-day life, IIT-Patna director T N Singh observed that application of AI in the medical field can help doctors diagnose the disease quickly and accurately, reducing dependence on different types of pathological tests.

He said that IIT-Patna and AIIMS-Patna must work in collaboration for providing maximum help and service to the ailing humanity.

Head of physiology department at AIIMS-Patna, Dr Tribhuwan Kumar, in his key-note address, spoke at length about the role of artificial intelligence in the field of medicine. He demonstrated how AI can be effectively used in detection of even complicated diseases by making use of a patient’s database.

Dr Deba Prasad Dash from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala (Punjab), deliberated on the use of AI in human gait analysis. He highlighted various types of gait abnormalities and how AI can help doctors to detect such abnormalities with lesser tests and ensure proper treatment.

Dr Chandan Kumar Jha, from IIIT-Bhagalpur spoke on cardiovascular disease detection using ECG signal analysis.

The workshop was jointly coordinated by Mahesh Kolekar of electrical engineering department and Meghna Dutta of humanities and social science department.

Associate dean of research and development, IIT-Patna, Anup Keshri highlighted the importance of continuing education programme in developing an environment of sustained research.
