Andhra CM Naidu meets Amit Shah, sparks TDP-BJP tie-up buzz | India News

TDP supremo and former CM of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday met Union home minister Amit Shah and BJP president JP Nadda in New Delhi. Though what transpired in the meeting was not made public, there has a been a talk of a rapprochement between the two estranged parties for a long time.
The meeting, the first one with Amit Shah since Naidu parted ways with BJP before the 2019 general elections, gains significance as the two politicians reportedly discussed state politics.
Naidu, who is in Delhi to attend the consultative meeting of the leaders on G20, is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.
Former TDP MPs Sujana Chowdary and CM Ramesh, who are now with BJP, have been pressing for talks between both the parties for quite some time now.
Sources said Naidu and Shah discussed possible electoral alliances in the state. AP is scheduled to go for assembly polls early next year. Naidu reached Shah’s house around 8pm and even as the two leaders were holding talks, Nadda joined them. The meeting lasted for nearly 50 minutes.
They said the TDP chief broached the alliance between TDP and BJP not only in AP, but also in Telangana. The assembly elections in Telangana are due later this year.
Naidu was accompanied by party MPs K Rammohan Naidu, Kesineni Srinivasand Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, and former MP Kambhampati Rammohan Rao for the meeting with the home minister.
Of late, Naidu, who was highly critical of the BJP leadership, has been making overtures to the saffron party. Naidu, in April, praised Modias a visionary leader.
Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, who is sailing with BJP, has also dropped enough indications earlier that there would be an alliance of “likeminded” parties to defeat YSRCP in AP. After parting ways from BJP, Naidu held nationwide rallies and meetings along with Congress functionaries and campaigned against Modi and his team. After the 2019 poll debacle, Naidu made efforts to reach out to BJP for alliance once again.
Interestingly, Amit Shah is scheduled to address a public meeting in Visakhapatnam on June 8, while Nadda will be addressing one in Tirupati on June 10.
