All the countries on UK amber and red lists as Majorca and Ibiza no longer green

Popular Spanish destination the Balearic Islands have been removed from the UK’s green list.

Holiday spots in the chain of islands, that include Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca, are now all on the UK’s amber list.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps made the bombshell announcement updating the government’s official travel traffic light system on Wednesday.

The changes kick in from 4am on July 19.

It now means some Brits currently in the Balearics have until Monday to race home if they wish to avoid quarantine.

However fully-vaccinated people will be unaffected by the rules, as double-jabbed people can return from amber list countries without quarantine from Monday.

The changes to the amber list travel kick in on Monday as England takes its fourth and final step in the roadmap out of lockdown.

That means double-jabbed travellers to the Balearics can continue to visit the region as if it is still on the green list.

But in another update on Wednesday, Bulgaria and Hong Kong were added to the green list, and Croatia and Taiwan were added to the green watchlist.

Ministers said the Government had no choice after the Balearics recorded a case rate of 258 per 100,000 people over the past week.

Meanwhile, four countries and territories – Cuba, Indonesia, Myanmar and Sierra Leone – will be added to the red list from 4am on Monday too in to safeguard the domestic vaccine rollout and public health, the Department for Transport said.

Visitors who have departed from or transited through these countries and territories in the previous 10 days will be refused entry into England.

Only British and Irish citizens, or those with residence rights – including long-term visa holders – will be allowed to enter and must stay and pay for their 10 days in a Government-approved hotel facility.

A statement from the Department for Transport urged Brits to plan international carefully.
