A plant sprouting from the marble wall of the Taj Mahal’s central dome has sparked concerns about the monument’s maintenance, after a tourist shared images on social media. This follows recent reports of rainwater seeping through the iconic structure, raising alarms about its conservation. Viral videos showed water droplets inside the mausoleum and a submerged garden on its premises. In response, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) dismissed the concerns, calling plant growth during the monsoon season a common occurrence. ASI official Raj Kumar Patel assured that the monument’s roof and water outlets are cleaned regularly, and plant growth is removed weekly. However, Deepak Daan, president of the Tourist Guides Welfare Association, criticised the ASI for neglecting proper upkeep of the heritage site.
