The first two episodes of Marvel’s new Disney+ Series, Agatha All Along, had started streaming on the platform from September 18. Agatha All Along is a spinoff from WandaVision, the first Disney+ series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe continuation, centring around Agatha Harkness, the primary antagonist of WandaVision. A major shock in what is a family-friendly series is a sequence of nudity. When Agatha breaks out of the spell that Wanda Maximoff had cast on her (towards the end of the WandaVision series), she finds herself back at her home and, for some reason, without any clothes. A fuming Agatha rushes out of her house in the buff, leaving her neighbours shocked and scandalised. However, even though the character is completely in the buff, the nudity is tastefully hidden.
That is, until after having an awkward conversation with one of her neighbours, Agatha turns back and walks towards her house, and we get to see her nude completely from the back.

This is the first time a main lead actress has gone nude in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Discounting the Netflix Marvel shows like Daredevil and Jessica Jones and even the other Marvel franchises like the X-Men series, including the first two Deadpool movies, which ain’t MCU canon, the franchise has played it coy when it comes to nudity. Even the R-rated outings of MCU like Echo and Deadpool & Wolverine might have amped up the violence and profanity of the franchise, but they didn’t risk actors showing their private bits. Not that MCU hasn’t done so, and the rare time they have played with nudity happens to be in PG-13 movies like Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder, both directed by Taika Waititi.

Chloe Zhao’s Eternals features Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first sex scene between Ikaris (Richard Madden) and Sersi (Gemma Chan), but they avoided showing actors in the nude.
It is not just the nudity where Agatha All Along has gone ‘bold’ when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the series also features strong LQBTQ+ themes as well. There is a teasing lesbian undertone in the dynamics between Agatha Harkness and Aubrey Plaza’s Rio, while Joe Locke’s character is shown to be gay.
