The news of hospitalisation was confirmed to TOI by multiple sources, both in Antigua and Dominica. His Antigua lawyer Justin Simon said the news was correct and forwarded a local media report saying. “I would not send fake media information. I am wary of the media, but that Dominica reporter has it right,” he said of the development, which was corroborated by a source in Dominican too.
Information on the nature of his health complaint, however, could not be immediately ascertained.
2 ‘Indian agents’ leave Dominica; yacht company denies transporting Choksi
Meanwhile, it has emerged that the two Indian agents, allegedly involved in the ‘abduction of Choksi’, have left Dominica.
Bhandal Gurjit and Singh Gurmit, the passport copies of whom are with TOI, reportedly left the Caribbean island for London after the matter became court litigation. They were staying in Fort Young hotel.
In another twist to the Choksi saga, pictures of the yacht in which the fugitive Indian businessman was allegedly carried from Antigua to Dominica last Sunday (on May 23), have emerged. Images showed two Indians boarding the yacht on May 23 in Antigua. The company, that runs the yacht service on the island, promptly denied it.
“Cobra Tours & Yacht Services are the premier yacht agents on the island of Dominica. This means we provide clearance, provisioning, and tour services while in Dominica. We do not charter out boats. The reports are based on a clearance document circulating where our name listed as the agent of a yacht which arrived in Dominica on Monday, May 24. This yacht entered Dominica with no agent,” a spokesman for the company told TOI on Sunday night.
The case of Choksi, an accused in Rs 1400 crore PNB scam and wanted by the Indian authorities, will come up for hearing in the Dominican high court this week.
In its order on Friday, the high court said, “The application for Habeas Corpus will be heard in open court on Wednesday 2nd June 2021 at 9:00 am to 10:00 am in the forenoon.”
The court also asked the lawyers not to speak to the media. Choksi’s Dominican lawyers – Julian Prevost, Wayne Nordé, Cara Shillingford-Marsh and Wayne Marsh – have been avoiding speaking to the media since.
