After snubbing Glastonbury, Neil Young says he will, in fact, headline the festival

Neil Young has had a change of heart.

The artist confirmed that he and his band the Chrome Hearts will, in fact, headline this year’s Glastonbury festival, clarifying in an online statement he had received “an error in the information” that had prompted him to pull out of the festival earlier this week.

The Canadian performer didn’t elaborate on what the error was.

“Happily, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we look forward to playing!” he wrote on his website, the Neil Young Archives.

Glastonbury Festival co-organizer Emily Eavis also wrote about the updated decision in a post on Instagram: “What a start to the year!” she wrote. “Neil Young is an artist who’s very close to our hearts at Glastonbury. He does things his own way and that’s why we love him. We can’t wait to welcome him back here to headline the Pyramid in June.”

On Tuesday, Young posted an initial decision to pull out of the festival due to what he called the BBC’s “corporate control.”

“We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in,” he wrote. “It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being.”

The BBC has been a partner of Glastonbury since 1997, when it took over broadcasting the festival from Channel 4.

Young has performed at Glastonbury in the past, headlining the Pyramid Stage alongside Bruce Springsteen and Blur in 2009.

Only portions of Young’s two-hour set in 2009 were broadcast on the BBC. In response to criticism at the time, the BBC said it had “spent the last couple of months” negotiating with Young’s management about how much of his set they could broadcast.

Tickets to this year’s festival reportedly sold out in 32 minutes. Set for June 25-29, the festival’s full lineup is yet to be revealed. The only other confirmed performer for the festival is Rod Stewart, who will play the coveted Glastonbury legends slot, having previously headlined the festival in 2002. Last year, Glastonbury was headlined by Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA.
