Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Demand for closer of meat shops during the Chaitra Navratri festival has cropped up in Bhopal on the heels of organisations’ making such a request to the Delhi government.

Bharat Raksha Manch, led by member of the BJP’s Parliamentary Board Satya Narayan Jatia, dash off a letter to the collector of Bhopal on Thursday demanding closure of all those shops, which are selling meat in the open, till Navratri.

In the letter, it was mentioned that meat was selling in the open, despite the Chief Minister’s instructions to stop such practice. Sale of meat in such a way spoils the spirits of a religious festival, the letter said. In the letter, it was also mentioned that selling meat in the open will not be tolerated in a country like India.

Legislator Rameshwar Sharma supported the letter of Bharat Raksha Manch. Those who speak about Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb should stop selling meat on their own during Navratri, Sharma said.

The Hindus worship their deity in these nine days, so those who speak about the Hindu-Muslim unity should close their meat shops, Sharma said. Sharma further said the meat sellers would not be forced to close their shops, but they should willingly do so. Navratri is beginning from March 30. It has happened for the first time that such a demand has cropped up.
