JAMMU: Kathua Jail authorities, during a routine search operation inside the prison, seized a cell phone each from two inmates earlier this week, exposing a major lapse at the high-security jail which houses some hardcore criminals, including gangsters and terrorists.
Official sources said both cell phones were basic models. An investigation was ordered to find out how the devices were brought inside the prison. Authorities assured strict action against the culprits.
In Oct 2024, notorious gangster and murder accused Arun Choudhary alias Abu Jatt offered a tour of Kathua Jail in a video following which he was shifted to another prison. Choudhary claimed that he had bribed jail officials Rs 2 lakh to get access to a cell phone. In April last year, a cell phone was recovered inside the jail complex at District Jail Ambphalla in Jammu city.
