Landslides struck the village of Kazamaura in Japan’s Aomori prefecture on August 10 in the wake of downpours brought by an extratropical cyclone. The Asahi Shimbun said up to 700 people were feared stranded in the village. Multiple landslides hit the Kazamaura area at various points along National Route 279, according to local news, with this footage posted by Twitter user @sattooo06 showing the impact. Evacuation orders were issued elsewhere in the prefecture, after the rain caused a river to overflow. The storm hit western Japan as Typhoon Lupit, the ninth of the season, before it was downgraded as it crossed the country. Credit: @sattooo06 via Storyful
