Farmers in Maharashtra will drive the state towards a second green revolution by harnessing green energy, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Tuesday (December 24, 2024).

“Adoption of green energy will pave the way for Maharashtra’s farmers to lead the second green revolution in the near future,” he said after the launch of Mukhyamantri Solar Krishi Vahini Project 2.0, during which he inaugurated solar projects in Umbartha in Washim district and Narangwadi in Dharashiv via video conference.

Mr. Fadnavis said that the project would ensure sustainable and free electricity for farmers during the day. “Currently, the state provides 16,000 MW of electricity to farmers. Efforts have been under way for two years to convert all these feeders to solar energy. Gradually, this transition will be completed, enabling farmers to access power during daylight hours,” he said.

The state is working towards creating solar-powered villages, ensuring that farmers benefit from clean, renewable energy. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that these initiatives would empower farmers and bring about a transformative change in Maharashtra’s agricultural landscape.

Farmers from Umbartha and Narangwadi villages also participated in the event via video conference to witness the launch of these solar projects.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who assumed charge as the state’s Finance Minister on Tuesday (December 24, 2024), instructed the administration to streamline and enhance the process of tax collection and revenue generation.

Mr. Pawar took charge of Finance, Planning, and Excise Departments at the state secretariat, Mantralaya. He chaired a meeting with officials, directing them to ensure effective results by improving tax collection and revenue generation processes. He also reviewed pending schemes, the current revenue situation, and fund requirements. The NCP president stressed on the need for schemes that prioritise the welfare of farmers and the general public.

He also directed the officials to take strict action against tax evaders.
