New Delhi, October 22: Elon Musk, his car company Tesla, and Warner Bros. Discovery were reportedly sued by Alcon Entertainment over using AI-generated imagery from the movie “Blade Runner 2049” during Tesla’s recent We, Robot event. As per reports, the images allegedly shown to promote Tesla’s We, Robot event are claimed to be a violation of copyright laws. The lawsuit focuses on Tesla and Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision to use the imagery without proper approval.

As per a report of CNBC, Alcon Entertainment, a production company behind Blade Runner 2049, has reportedly filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk, Tesla, and Warner Bros. Discovery. The lawsuit is about allegedly infringing the copyright by using artificial intelligence to create images from the movie Blade Runner 2049 to promote Tesla’s Robotaxi concept. Warner Bros. Discovery and Tesla requested permission to use the film’s imagery a few hours before the We, Robot demo took place on the Warner Bros. lot in California on October 10, according to a report of The VergeElon Musk’s xAI Hiring: AI Company Looking for Bilingual Experts Including Hindi-Speaking ‘AI Tutors’; Check Details.

As per reports, the lawsuit claims that an AI image generator was used to create promotional artwork for the We, Robot event, which was intended to look like the stills from the 2017 science fiction film. Warner Bros. Discovery does hold some licensing rights for Blade Runner 2049. However, they needed to get direct permission from Alcon Entertainment to use the images since the event was going to be live-streamed worldwide. When Alcon’s legal and licensing teams found out about the situation, they allegedly refused to allow the use of the images. Elon Musk’s Private Jet Tracking Accounts Still Active on Mark Zuckerberg-Run Meta Platforms, While Taylor Swift’s Tracker Suspended.

Tesla is said to have used images from Blade Runner 2049 in an AI image generator to produce fake screen stills. The image was reportedly featured during the We, Robot presentation. In the lawsuit filed by Alcon Entertainment, the company does not specify the exact amount of money they are seeking in damages. However, they reportedly stated that they believe Elon Musk, Tesla, and Warner Bros. Discovery were aware that the use of the image was unauthorised and that it was being used for an improper purpose, which has led to a legal dispute.
