RCMP investigating after 3 people found dead in Lloydminster

Alberta RCMP are investigating after three people were found dead Wednesday┬аin Lloydminster, Sask.

In a statement Thursday, RCMP said the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation.

Few details have been released. There is no risk to public safety, RCMP said.

Police said the investigation began after the bodies were found Wednesday evening.

RCMP will hold a news conference today at 2:15 p.m. MT┬аoutside the Lloydminster RCMP detachment.

Staff Sgt. Brian Nicholl, commander of the detachment,┬аis expected to speak to reporters and provide more details on the investigation.┬а

As of Thursday afternoon, investigators remained at the scene┬аin the area of┬а50th┬аStreet and 47th┬аAvenue, a few blocks east of the Alberta-Saskatchewan border that cuts┬аthrough┬аLloydminster’s downtown.

Yellow police tape surrounded┬аa small green bungalow┬аflanked by overgrown trees.

Investigators have been seen carrying plastic totes out of the home’s front door.

Officers wearing blue medical gloves, with their shoes covered in white disposable boots, walked through the homes front yard and searched the grass outside with metal detectors.

In an advisory at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, RCMP┬аsaid they were responding to an unfolding incident┬аand advised of a heavy police presence in the city’s core.

They said the incident posed no risk to the public and that an update would be issued when more details became available.
