Tanuj Virwani told us that the success of MTV Splitsvilla X5 Season 15 has taken him by surprise. He said the dating reality show was a change of pace for him after doing so many OTT shows. He also agreed to do the MTV show because it had his One Night Stand co-star and friend Sunny Leone as co-host. “It was a rollercoaster ride. Initially, I thought, ‘Why did they think of me as a host?’ When I had a meeting with them, they managed to convince me. I agreed, as (actress and co-star) Sunny Leone was on board. She is a good friend and I have a comfort level with her. Also, with MTV Splitsvilla, I could reach out to a new audience in the age bracket of 15-25. The show ran for three months and I realised how sustainable it was as a project. Every week, people would ask me about the eliminations, fights, etc. on social media. He said, “Young people today have a high level of clarity about what they want. I was not like them when I began to date in college. But every relationship needs a certain level of compromise. When you balance the passion and do not feel pain in adjusting, you have hit a sweet spot in life. Kids today have a very ‘my way or the highway’ kind of philosophy.”

Tanuj Virwani said he is also surprised with how social media validation matters. “Things were so much simpler way back. Nowadays, there is pressure to put social media posts on birthdays and anniversaries. When we party with friends, one person only clicks pictures. I find it irritating when people are just engrossed in taking pics or making reels at a function,” he opines.

Tanuj Virwani, who has done shows like Inside Edge, Kamathipura, Code M, Poison, Tandoor and more, says it is true that young people see MTV Splitsvilla as a training ground for Bigg Boss. He says, “They are very sharp kids. I feel Harshit Arora, Digvijay Rathee, Siwet Tomar and Rushali Yadav would do well. Then, of course, Kashish Kapoor is a great fit for Bigg Boss 18. I believe Arbaz Shaikh is already doing Bigg Boss Marathi 5. These kids have everything needed to sustain on Salman Khan’s show. They have trained on MTV Splitsvilla (laughs).”

MTV Splitsvilla X5 Season 15 declared two winners on August 11, Jashwanth Bopanna and Akriti Negi. Bigg Boss 18 will start on Colors and JioCinema on October 5, 2024.
