A 13-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by her 30-year-old mother following a petty quarrel at their residence in Shivshambhu Colony, Thergaon. The Pimpri Chinchwad police have arrested the mother on charges of murder.
A First Information Report (FIR) in the case has been lodged at the Wakad police station on Monday.
According to the police, the mother became angry after discovering some missing kitchen material and blamed her daughter for not informing her about it. This led to a quarrel, during which the mother allegedly thrashed her daughter severely with bamboo and wooden sticks on the afternoon of May 14. The daughter sustained severe injuries all over her body and lost consciousness.
She was rushed to a hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead upon arrival. The police were informed about the death.
“The mother initially told the hospital staff and doctors that the girl got injured after falling down from the staircase. However, our investigation and medical reports confirmed that she was beaten to death. Today, we have arrested the mother under sections 302, 181 of the Indian Penal Code, and sections of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act,” said Senior Police Inspector Ganesh Jawadwad of Wakad police station.
The police revealed that the deceased girl’s father had passed away a few years ago, and she was residing with her mother and two brothers.
