Pune’s Shivajinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 40.8 degrees Celsius on Friday, slightly lower than Thursday’s 41 degrees Celsius, as the city continues to experience high temperatures. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the maximum temperature will remain above 40 degrees Celsius in the coming days, with Koregaon Park being the hottest area with a maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees Celsius. Other areas such as Dudulgaon, Magarpatta, Chinchwad, Pashan, and rural parts of the district also recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
In addition, Friday marked the day when the “very severe” Cyclone Mocha developed into an “extremely severe” cyclone over the central Bay of Bengal. The cyclone is expected to cross south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh and Sittwe in Myanmar late on Friday night. Due to the cyclone, some parts of India have been receiving rain.
The IMD has issued heat wave warnings for Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan, advising people to take precautions, especially during the daytime, by staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun. The nighttime temperature is also expected to increase.
