Rajasthan: Tiger T-104 dies at Sajjangarh biological park a day after relocation

Tiger T-104 nicknamed Chikku, who was relocated from Ranthambore tiger reserve to Sajjangarh Biological Park in Rajasthan on Tuesday, died a day later on Wednesday, officials said.

Although the exact reason behind the death is uncertain, according to officials, the tiger died due to a tranquiliser overdose, adding that they will know it for sure once the post-mortem report comes.

District Forest Officer (DFO) Ajay Chittora said that the tiger T-104 was brought to the biological park on Tuesday, where he was kept under observation.

тАЬHe ate some food and was behaving normally, but suddenly his health deteriorated later at night and he died in the morning. The reason for the tigerтАЩs death is yet to be ascertained. The cause of death will be known after getting the postmortem report,тАЭ said Chittora.

The tiger was tranquillised on Tuesday evening around 6.30pm, after which he was shifted to captivity and blocks of ice were kept inside the cage seeing the heat, said officials.

The tiger was recently declared a man-eater and after protests from locals following the alleged killing of three people, the forest department decided to shift him to Sajjangarh Biological Park in Udaipur.

After declaring him a тАЬman-eaterтАЭ and тАЬdanger to humansтАЭ by the special committee constituted for the study of tiger nature, the 6-year-old tiger was kept in an enclosure at the Bid Naka area of Ranthambore and later to Udaipur on Tuesday after clearance from the National Tiger Conservation Authority.

T-104 allegedly killed three people, including a man in July, a man in September, and a woman in February 2019, all residents of Karauli district.
