The police have arrested one more person in connection with the clashes between groups belonging to two communities in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar city on Tuesday night, taking the number of arrests in the case to 18. The clashes had resulted in injuries to five persons and damage to three vehicles.
“In the case in which we had arrested two persons, one more arrest has been made. The person has been identified as Akash Gaikwad, 19. Further investigation into the case is on,” said an officer from Ahmednagar district police on Thursday.
The probe by Ahmednagar district police had revealed that a petty dispute between local groups over a bike skidding near a group of three persons had led to the clashes. Police had said their probe revealed no ‘communal issue’ as a cause behind the clashes which originated in the Warulwadi area of Ahmednagar around 8.30 pm on Tuesday, had triggered minor incidents of stone pelting at two places — Mukundnagar and on Sambhajinagar road.
In the early hours of Wednesday, two cases had been registered with Ahmednagar police based on complaints filed by both sides against each other. Till Wednesday evening, the police had arrested a total of 17 persons, two in one case and 15 in the second case.
