A 51-year-old clerk with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) was arrested by the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a contractor for processing the file of a civic work order.
The arrested suspect, who was identified as Dilip Bhavshing Aade, works with the PCMC tenders department. The complainant in the case is a contractor who was awarded the contract for the maintenance of water supply systems through a tendering process. To process the work order file and move it to the department concerned for approval, Aade allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1.05 lakh from the complainant, officials said.
After the bribe demand, the contractor approached the ACB. Meanwhile, the bribe amount was allegedly negotiated to Rs 1 lakh. After verifying the demand, the ACB officials laid a trap and arrested Aade while allegedly accepting the bribe of Rs 1 lakh on Tuesday.
A First Information Report under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the Pimpri police station.
