A two-year-old girl died and her mother was seriously injured after they were allegedly pushed out of a running train at Khadki railway station in Pune by the girl’s father Saturday (March 18), said the railway police.

The railway police arrested the father, identified as Akash Bhosale, 32, who is a criminal on police records. The police identified the deceased as Arvi Bhosale and her mother as Vrushali, 25, who was critically injured.

The incident took place in the morning on Pragati Express, which was heading from Pune to Mumbai.

Officials said an investigation revealed that Akash had told his wife he was taking her and their daughter to Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai. They boarded Pragati Express and when it passed the Khadki railway station, where it does not have a stop, Akash pushed Vrushali and Arvi out of the train.

After seeing the woman and child fall, passengers inside the train stopped the train by pulling the chain for emergency brakes. People present at the train station informed the railway police personnel on duty. Arvi and Vrushali were rushed to a hospital.

Government Railway Police Superintendent of Police Rajesh Bansode said, “The girl and mother sustained critical injuries. We initially invoked attempted murder charges against the father. A day later, the child succumbed to her injuries. We have added the murder charges. A probe has been launched into the cause behind the incident and sequence of events leading to it.”
