Three persons were killed after a speeding car collided with a stationary truck near Urse toll post on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway around 8 am on Friday, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Vijay Vishwanath Khair (70), Rahul Bala Kulkarni (42), and Mayur Mehta (28) — all residents of Karad in Satara district — said police, adding that a joint team of officials from the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police and Highway Safety Patrol were deployed to the spot for investigation following the accident.

Police Inspector Vanita Dhumal of Shirgaon police station said, “A speeding car rammed a truck parked on the roadside on the Mumbai-Pune lane near Urse toll post around 8 am… and the three passengers died.”

According to police, the victims’ bodies were removed from the crushed car that got under the truck’s rear side, leading to a traffic congestion on the expressway for some time.

The damaged vehicles were removed from the spot using crane service, according to officials.
