The Prahar Apang Kranti Sanghatna protested outside the Pune district collectorтАЩs office on Friday demanding one guntha (1089 sq feet) land for the landless and the homeless among disabled people.
After a couple of hours, the protesters were called by district collector Rajesh Deshmukh, who then assured them that he would send a proposal to accept their demands to the higher authorities.
Dharmandra Satav, Maharashtra president of the organisation, said, тАЬEven today disabled people have difficulty getting work and are treated unfairly. So most of them are jobless and homeless. We just demand the government provide land to those who need it, since the disabled are also part of society. District collector Deshmukh Sir invited us for a discussion and assured us that the necessary facilities will be provided and that a proposal to accept our demands will be sent to the government.тАЭ
Dattatray Patole, a blind protester, said, тАЬI came from Shivatkar (Nira) to attend this protest. IтАЩm blind by birth and both of my sisterтАЩs children are also blind. As a family we are totally ignored in our village. Sometimes people place thorns on my way and beat me up. The place that I was given has been encroached on. ItтАЩs not just my family but most of us disabled people have the same story to tell. So our demand for land is more a demand for homes, which we all desperately need.тАЭ
The protesters came from various districts of the state.
