BMRCL suspends three officers in metro pillar collapse incident at Bengaluru. | Bengaluru

A day after the under-construction metro pillar collapsed in Bengaluru that took the lives of two people, the BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited) has issued a suspension order to three of its officers. An enquiry has also been ordered by BMRCL on the suspended officers.

In a statement, the BMRCL said, “The in-charge Deputy Chief Engineer, Executive Engineer and the site engineer are suspended pending enquiry. An internal technical team has been constituted to investigate the cause of the accident and submit the report at the earliest.”

The metro body has also asked IISc (Indian Institute of Science) to independently investigate the matter and submit a report to them. “BMRCL has requested IISc to independently investigate and provide a report,” read the statement further.

A case has also been registered against Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC) in connection with the collapse of an under-construction metro pillar. NCC is named first accused (A1), followed by its officials. BMRCL deputy chief engineer and executive engineer are A7 and A8 respectively, said a report in news agency PTI. The company was the contractor that was carrying out the work. Tejaswini (30) and Vihan died after a structure at ‘Namma Metro’ construction site fell on them on the outer ring road of Bengaluru on Tuesday morning.
